South Park

I like South Park. It’s one of the few things I make an effort to watch on air. That list is probably comprised of South Park and football.

Kevin recently decided he’d like to get more into the show. But a sprawling episode list over 200 items long can be pretty daunting. As a starting point, I narrowed down a list for him of 40 of my favorites, which I figured I ought to share with you guys in blogopedia as well. They’re in chronological order, with “S01,” “S03” etc. as bookmarks to help you navigate.

[Suppose it’s worth pointing out, by the way, that South Park uses a lot of very crass humor and isn’t intended for children or the office. But you probably already knew that.]

All episodes (except 201, which isn’t on the list but otherwise would be) are available for free streaming at www.southparkstudios.com , and I think Netflix has ’em, too.

Of course, the most important questions: Did I miss any vital episodes? Did I blow it and mention a few crappy ones? Which ones are the best five? Etc.

  1. Kevin – you must watch “With Apologies to Jesse Jackson”…the first 3 minutes is literally the pinnacle of television in the history of America

  2. These are great. I think the one Craig mentioned is a MUST. I would add to the list (probably as second tier)just for the sake of better understanding South Park fans, the following notes (bear with me, this my get lengthy):

    1) If you ever plan to watch the South Park movie you should definitely watch “Big Gay Al’s Big Gay Boatride” first.

    2) If you love Cartman, you definitely have to watch “Chickenlover” (S02) and learn to respect the authoritah.

    3) For some solid fun at the expense of gingers everywhere you should accompany “Scott Tenorman Must Die” with “Ginger Kids” (S09) and end with “200” and “201” (both S14)

Other than that here are a list of honorable mentions:
-S04 Cartman joins NAMBLA (fun fact: I was unaware NAMBLA was a real thing until many years after seeing this episode).
    -S05 Towelie
    -S07 All About Mormons
    S07 Red Man’s Greed
    S08 The Jefferson
    -S08 Goobacks
S09 Trapped in the Closet (Episode Isaac Hayes quit over)

If you’ve watched all of these and what’s on Josh’s list and get bored, there are clearly more recommendations but this is what I could pare down the list to include for now.
